The Blue Diamond newsletter is the only publication geared exclusively toward the serious adult dance student. You won't find articles on folkdance, ballroom, swing, or New Age dance. Just pointed, specific, technical information on how adult beginners can become great dancers -- specifically focusing on ballet, but occasionally touching on other forms of dance you may be studying.
Getting the information you really want
This website gives me a unique ability to get instant feedback from subscribers. I stay in touch with subscribers via e-mail, and they can also e-mail me with questions at any time. That way, you get content tailored to your needs: Whatever most people want to know is what I write for the next issue. Then, of course, you receive the actual newsletter by mail.

Everything in the newsletter is researched and written by me, a former newspaper features writer (who knows how to do her research). I started out as (and I guess I still am) an obsessed adult ballet student, and grew into a swan (or at least a performing dancer who actually gets paid). For more about moi, click here.

The newsletter also gives subscribers access to many special "subscribers only" pages on the website, featuring additional articles, such as my ballet video reviews, news of adult ballet summer workshops, tips on remembering combinations in class, and more. Subscribing is the only way to gain access to new material on the website, since I write new pages each month with special URLs for subscribers only.

So, what's the deal?
A subscription to The Blue Diamond (6 issues) is $40 a year ($50 international). That's less than the cost of a leotard and tights, so I believe it's a great value. Where else will you learn -- from a fellow adult dancer who has been there before you -- how to achieve turnout, how to increase your energy and flexibility without adding hours to your daily routine, how to work on technique and expression simultaneously, and much more. And remember, you receive more than the newsletter itself, you also gain exclusive access to many areas on this website that the casual visitor never sees.

Blue Diamond Newsletter: 8 1/2" x 11", 6 pages per issue! Our ninth issue (Vol. 1, Number 3) is out to subscribers now. So, you can begin with the newest issue at the $40 ($50 international) subscription price, or get the original seven issues #1-8 as well for an additional $26. So for the $66 price ($76 international) you get the first nine issues right away, with the next five to come throughout the year.

And, just to give a peek into the future, Issue #10 will carry on the theme of this year by connecting the strength we've been developing in lower abs and inner thighs, focusing on a strong core/center in motion and turnout. After that, we'll move on to the rotators, glutes and so forth, until the whole body is connected up and in peak condition to excel in ballet.

I just received this note the other day from subscriber Jeana Smith:

"Received your newsletters and shirt in the mail today. Thank you very much. Of course I immediately had to skim everything. Although I am particularly interested in advice on technique, the article on older dancers and their performances was truly inspiring. Also, thanks for punching the pages. The personal touch is greatly appreciated and seldom seen these days."

From Pamela Goodlow:

"I've been enjoying reading the back issues of the newsletters. I see that they will prove invaluable to me! I just turned 45 years old and began taking my first ballet class in September . . . I find the ballet lessons incredibly fascinating (and very, VERY challenging)! Thanks so much for creating a forum for all of us out here who've decided in our manic adult years to pursue our dance dreams, and finding out that we're not alone."

From Catherine Laurier:

"I've enjoyed every single newsletter. I'm amazed how much valuable information you cram into such a small space. I also like the way you weave in your own experiences. That makes everything seem so real to me, and gives me the encouragement of a real live person, and lets me know I'm not alone in what I go through. I have really enjoyed your clear explanations of technique. Also enjoy the articles that give encouragement to us adult who might want to dare consider performing."

From Mary Jennings:

"I love your newsletters. I read them and then pass them among the members of my dance group (ages 40-60). We live in the "boonies" . . . and have no formal instruction unless we go somewhere or have someone come to us to do a workshop, so your newsletters are especially useful. What a wonderful resource. Thanks!"

George Janca writes:

"Rosetta, for the past year and one-half of receiving them, the newsletters have all been wonderful and I have retained each one for reference and inspiration."

Leah Stewart says:

"I've only been back in class for a few months so I'm at that beginner's stage where I swing wildly from 'I can do this' feelings to 'I should give up now' feelings. I need fortitude and inspiration to keep me moving forward. Thanks for the website and the newsletter! And I LOVE my t-shirt -- even if my boyfriend still doesn't understand why I think it's so funny!"

Lorna Murdock says:

"[I've enjoyed most] the [newsletter] issues that addressed strengthening of core and abs and psoas. It's finally all falling into place for me, thanks in large part to your helpful hints and exercises."

Here's what Suzan Wescott, wrote in an e-mail:

"I wanted to advise you of my new address so that I don't dare miss an issue of your fabulous newsletter. Keep up the great work!"
