My correpondent writes that this studio has a good adult beginner class, but offers it only once a week. Still, it's a place to start.

Heidi Eads is the recommended ballet teacher. My correspondent writes: "Heidi is really sweet, and makes the class challenging and fun. She treats adults as seriously as the younger kids she teaches. I mainly take classes with teenagers, or younger students, but this summer, there were some adults in our class. Heidi is a walking encyclopedia, and has danced with the Stuttgart Ballet, and some other places as well. I have learned a ton of variations from her this year, and yes, I AM AN ADULT (although I try not to advertise it). There are others who teach beginning adult classes, but I have not been in them, so I can't say much about them, but all the teachers at Jordan are great. They also offer tap, jazz, modern, and flamenco for students of all ages, plus creative dance for the little ones."

Now, a few recommendations from another adult student at Jordan Academy: "From your site, I see that Heidi Eads is the teacher mentioned for adult classes. I do love Heidi, she's a sweetheart; but I would also mention Laura Hedges-Byram (EXCELLENT) for ballet and Beverly Sikes for modern and jazz. All three women are professional and provide the perfect blend of discipline and kindness to get the most out of their students."

And another student chimes in: "Noticed your page during a web search and had to include Laura Hedges Byram as a recommended teacher. I have been Laura's student (on and off) for approximately ten years. I started with her at the age of twenty five and was always treated as a serious student. During my time with her she has allowed me to take classes with her younger students and serve as a demonstrator and teachers assistant. During my years with her I completed a bachelors and masters degree and am now working on my doctorate, as school often required that I be removed from the studio for months, and sometimes years, coming back to one of her classes was always like coming home. Laura appreciates dance and values all those who dance. I have watched several of her students move on through high school and become wonderful performers, teachers and directors. Her classes are structrued, fun, challenging and rewarding. If I could live life over again, I wouldn't have missed a week of her Wednesday evening classes." 5/03
